We thought it would be fun if we could create a forum for members to discuss their favorite books. What are you reading these days? What would you recommend to other section members? Fiction, non-fiction, short stories — anything is fair game.

  1. I am reading a thoroughly enjoyable non-fiction book entitled “The Man Who Made Lists.” The subtitle to the book is “Love, Death, Madness, and the Creation of Roget’s Thesaurus.” The book is full of useful insight into the creation of the book as well as the characters in Roget’s life.

I recommend this book to those readers who like non-fiction and autobiographies.

    Jennifer

  2. My Stroke of Insight: A Brain Scientist’s Personal Journey details the account of a 37-year old as she exeriences a massive stroke and it follows her throughout her recovery. She analyzes the process of the stroke as she experiences it and she provides an understanding of just how amazing our brain is along with an appreciation for the process of healing.
The first half of the book has been intriguing and I am looking forward to finishing it this weekend. Linda

  3. I loved the books by Bill McLain entitled “Why are Flamingos Pink?” and Do Fish Drink Water?” The books are full of puzzling and improbable questions and answers. For instance, how many collors of M & Ms are there? You would be surprised at the answer. Also, Why is the egg associated with the Easter Bunny? Finally, why do people yell “Geronimo” when jumping off something? These are wonderful books to read alone of to share with others on a long drive, or with your children or grandchildren.

  4. If you’re looking for a fun read, get a copy of Mennonite in a LIttle Black Dress, by Rhoda Janzen. This is a hilarious memoir written by an English professor who returns to her Mennonite home to lick her wounds after her husband of 15 years leaves her for a man he met on gay.com. We all should be so lucky as to have a mother as outrageous as Janzen’s.
